An Afterthought

I can’t help but add an important detail to my last post. Though I touched the fringes of it, there is a vein of revelation too rich to let pass by altogether.

It wasn’t just happenstance that the Lord and His angels passed by Abraham’s tent while on assignment. In fact, reading the story again, I’d say He went out of His way, even to the point of standing smack dab in Abraham’s line of sight so he would notice Him. I love how the Lord always helps us out that way since we, at present, see through a mirror that gives only a dim (blurred) reflection and we only know and understand in part (1 Corinthians 13:12).

Such a beautiful invitation to not only learn more about God’s judgment, but to connect with His heart behind it. In fact, if the Lord was all that anxious to administer His righteous wrath against sin—which is more than justified!—would He have stopped to have a snack with a friend? Would He have initiated the conversation as to the purpose of His trip? I think not. As surely as I live, says the Sovereign Lord, I take no pleasure in the death of wicked people. I only want them to turn from their wicked ways so they can live . . . (Ezekiel 33:11).

So, like Abraham, let’s detain Him from His present-day mission. Let’s fellowship together with Him over a meal, have the conversation that effects America’s future. His invitation is right there waiting to be accepted.
